PS4 Beats Xbox One For November Sales In North America PS4 Beats Xbox One For November Sales In North America - Last Update : 1/2/2014 2:21:01 PM - Views : 3940

The November NPD report on the videogame industry is out, and while we don't have specific numbers, Sony says that its PS4 beat out Microsoft's Xbox One in total sales. It's unsurprising because the PS4 came out one week earlier, giving it a little more time to bulk up those numbers for the month.

"PlayStation 4 sales in North America and worldwide have been incredibly strong since launch, culminating in PS4 being recognized as the largest console launch in history," SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton said in a statement, via CVG.

“In North America alone, more than one million PS4 units were sold in only 24 hours and we're pleased NPD has reported that PS4 was the top selling next-gen platform for both hardware and software in November," he said.

Microsoft was keen to note that the Xbox One sold slightly faster than the PS4, averaging 101,000 per day since launch.

In total, NPD has the North American games industry surging to $2.74 bn this month(numbers via Venturebeat). The report also notes that software sales slumped 24 percent from last November, but that number doesn't include digital sales, making it increasingly trivial.

At this point, it's very hard to tell just how the current-gen is shaking out, save the one fact that it's going very well for both companies involved. Sony likely leads with the 2.1 million it sold in what we can call the launch window, as opposed to Microsoft's 2 million, but it's very close either way.

It's also important to remember that neither of these consoles have launched in Japan yet — I doubt that will move Xbox One's needle much, but is sure to add some meaty numbers to the PS4.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating; both of these consoles are incredibly popular, and demand will continue to outstrip supply probably until December 24th. In these very early days of the console ware, the crown will go to whichever company can make more consoles — selling them doesn't appear to be the issue.
